An effective regulatory contact starts with a clear appointment and a practical process for handling communications.

For Cayman fund managers and directors, AEOI compliance involves several parties working together. Administrators, reporting providers and governing bodies each have responsibilities, making clear communication essential.

The updated Cayman CRS framework adds a local contact requirement to that relationship. Funds within scope need to ensure their Principal Point of Contact meets the Cayman location requirements and that the relevant information is recorded with the DITC.

What is a Principal Point of Contact?

The Principal Point of Contact, or PPoC, is authorised by a Cayman Financial Institution to serve as its primary contact with the Tax Information Authority, through the DITC, for CRS compliance.

The PPoC may be an individual or a legal entity. An individual must have a physical Cayman Islands address. A legal entity must be incorporated, registered or established in Cayman and maintain a physical address here. The purpose is to give the Authority a locally reachable contact that can receive and respond to official communications promptly.

What is the deadline?

The DITC has extended the deadline for submitting information about the Cayman-based PPoC and the date the entity became a Financial Institution to 31 January 2027.

This extension applies to those two information items. Funds should continue to meet their other applicable registration and reporting deadlines.

What should fund managers and directors do now?

Start by reviewing the fund’s existing arrangements. Establish who currently acts as PPoC, whether that person meets the local requirements, and whether a new appointment or Portal update is needed.

Then agree how communications will be handled. Who receives an enquiry? Who gathers the necessary information? Who coordinates the response and keeps directors informed?

These practical steps help make the appointment effective:

  • Confirm which fund entities require a local PPoC.
  • Document the appointment and agreed scope of service.
  • Coordinate any handover with the existing PPoC and reporting provider.
  • Establish clear responsibilities for reviewing and responding to enquiries.
  • Check that the relevant DITC Portal information is complete and current.

A fund with an overseas administrator or reporting provider should review its contact arrangements early, allowing time to coordinate any changes.
